Artist Statement
My inspiration for paintings often comes from my close surroundings. Currently, my studio plants are a starting point. For me, they are endlessly fascinating and have provided fodder for lots of painting, drawing and experiments. One plant can lead to several paintings. One painting leads to other paintings. This restriction allows me to focus on the formal qualities of the paint itself. Limiting the subject matter or repainting the same subject highlights what’s really interesting to me; the colour, light, patterns, shapes, forms, luminosity etc. I paint directly and fast, with immediacy and urgency, details get overlooked and when representation and abstraction get jumbled, the painting starts to make its own sense.
